Plumber in Leander, TX

Drive time from our shop: ~22 minutes

Leander's growth has outpaced most of Central Texas, with most current housing built after 2010 in subdivisions like Bryson, Bar W Ranch, Travisso, Carneros Ranch, and Palmera Ridge. The plumbing across that newer construction is mostly PEX with PVC sewer mains, which is in solid shape — but Leander has its own quirks: high static water pressure on parts of the BCRUA system, Travisso's purple-pipe reclaimed water irrigation, and the same Central Texas hard water and clay-soil dynamics. ABM Plumbing Company serves Leander with full residential plumbing services. Texas RMP License #16739, held by Travis K Davis.

Leander's Water

The City of Leander gets its raw water from Lake Travis and treats it at two plants: the city-owned Sandy Creek Water Treatment Plant (operated under contract by the Brazos River Authority) and the Brushy Creek Regional Utility Authority plant (a partnership with Cedar Park and Round Rock). Sandy Creek handles a smaller share of overall demand; BCRUA is the city's primary source. Both treat with chloramine.

Hardness is similar to Cedar Park — Lake Travis source water is somewhat softer than Round Rock or Austin, but still well into the very-hard category. Expect noticeable scale on water heaters and fixtures over time. Our Austin-area hard water guide covers the dynamics and softener options that actually solve the problem. Note that chloramine removal requires catalytic carbon, not standard activated carbon.

High Water Pressure on BCRUA

A pattern specific to parts of Leander: some neighborhoods on the BCRUA distribution system run static water pressure well above the 80 PSI ceiling most fixtures are designed for. High pressure shortens water heater life, causes repeated leaks at supply-line connections, contributes to water hammer (banging pipes when valves close), and shortens the lifespan of every fixture in the house. A pressure gauge on a hose bib is a five-minute test. If pressure is over 80 PSI, a pressure-reducing valve at your main is an inexpensive long-term fix.

Slab Leaks

Most of Leander's recent construction is slab-on-grade, and the area's clay/limestone soils move seasonally with moisture. Slab leaks are a regular service call. Signs: an unexplained increase in your water bill, the sound of running water when nothing is on, warm spots on the floor, foundation or wall cracks. Early detection matters — slab leaks get more expensive every week they continue. Our slab leak repair cost guide covers the options.

Travisso and Purple-Pipe Reclaimed Water

Travisso has its own water reclamation plant that produces treated reclaimed water for landscape irrigation throughout the subdivision and the community golf course. The purple piping you see is the reclaimed-water distribution system. It runs separately from the potable water supply, but the two systems must remain isolated — no cross-connections allowed. Any irrigation work, hose bib relocation, or sprinkler modification on a Travisso property needs a plumber familiar with the dual-system configuration.

Older Leander Core

Older sections of central Leander have 1980s–1990s housing with copper supply and either cast-iron or earlier-generation PVC sewer laterals. These homes occasionally have polybutylene fittings and the typical issues that come with 30+ years of service. Worth getting a baseline assessment if you're new to the home.

Plumbing Questions from Leander Homeowners

How hard is Leander's water?

Leander gets water from Lake Travis through both the city's Sandy Creek Water Treatment Plant and the Brushy Creek Regional Utility Authority partnership. Hardness is similar to Cedar Park — typically in the very-hard range but slightly softer than Round Rock or Austin. Check the current City of Leander Consumer Confidence Report for the latest reading.

My Travisso home has purple-pipe irrigation. Anything special I should know?

Travisso uses treated reclaimed water (recycled wastewater) for landscape irrigation, which is what the purple piping indicates. The reclaimed system is separate from your potable supply — irrigation, sprinkler heads, and outdoor spigots on that system shouldn't be cross-connected with drinking-water lines, and any plumbing work near the irrigation system needs a plumber who understands the configuration.

Why is my water pressure so high in Bar W Ranch?

Some areas of Leander on the BCRUA distribution system run high static water pressure — sometimes well above 80 PSI, which is the upper limit most plumbing fixtures are designed for. High pressure shortens water heater life, contributes to fixture leaks, and stresses joints. A pressure-reducing valve at your main is an inexpensive fix.
